Navigating the Set Up: talk for parents & people looking to defuse conflict & confusion
Children show us how they feel more than tell us because young children don't possess the language or cognitive abilities to label, organize and express their feelings. One way that children show us how they feel is by setting us up to feel how they feel. For example; a kid who is feeling over whelmed may set you up through their behavior to feel out of control. In this talk we will discuss how to notice when your child is setting you up to feel how they feel. We will also talk about how to help your child navigate those feelings in ways that avoid shame and increase peace in your household. Parents will be engaged in experiments and exercises so that they can hear, see and feel what we are talking about. This is a serious talk about seeing children more clearly, but uses some good fun to get the point across.
